POWER TIPS TERMINAL FACTS
PrimaryWireTerminals Primary wire terminals are often dismissed as nickel and dime items, but they are too important to the electrical system to take lightly. Using a cheaply made terminal can lead to poor conductivity, shorts, and time wasted trying to determine the cause of lighting problems. Vinyl InsulatedTerminals These are the general purpose terminals, and are good for most basic uses. Ours feature molded insulation with a funnel entry. The funnel entry helps prevent wires from hanging up when they are inserted into the crimp area of the terminal. This speeds up installation, and ensures more wires are inside the terminal conducting electricity. Beware of cheaper terminals made with extruded vinyl insulation. This is cheaper, but splits easily and cannot be made with funnel entry. Power Products terminals are also made from tin plated copper for premium conductivity. Seamless Nylon InsulatedTerminals These are used when higher temperatures are expected (such as in the engineer compartment) or when a greater pullout strength is needed. The brazed seam in the crimp area holds wire stronger than the butted seam of vinyl insulated terminals. ShrinkTube InsulatedTerminals These are popular on "higher value" circuits, such as when making repairs to a trailer harness, or for use with LED lights or other items that will have a long life. These terminals feature shrink tubing with an adhesive liner, that seals out moisture and corrosion. Non-InsulatedTerminals These are mostly used when they will be soldered onto the wire. They can also be used with liquid electrical tape or shrink tubing to provide insulation.
